Pumpkins at Nest!
On Monday, a rather special autumn visitors arrived in Hatchlings… our Pumpkins 🎃
Little did we know just how much she would become part of our week!
Rather than using our Pumpkins for one activity and then moving on, we kept them close by and watched as the children found more and more ways to include them in their play. They joined the building blocks, carried carefully around the room and rolled backwards and forwards across the floor between friends. There were lots of little hands discovering just how heavy, round and wonderfully roll-y a pumpkin can be!
Our Pumpkin has also had quite a few baths this week! 🫧 The children scrubbed and washed them with brushes, sponges and water before covering them in paint… and then, of course, washing them all over again!
Eventually, curiosity got the better of us and we had to see what was inside! The children scooped out the seeds and explored the slippery, stringy textures before our pumpkins headed outside to the mud kitchen, where plenty of stirring, scooping and mixing turned them into some very tasty-looking pumpkin soup. 🥣
One of the loveliest things to see has been the children returning to these experiences throughout the week. Another scrub, another splash, another roll to a friend — familiar play was revisited again and again, and each time there seemed to be something new to notice or try.
Our Pumpkins even helped us explore feelings and emotions this week. 💛 We painted different smiles and expressions on our new friends, 🎃 talked about happy, sad, cross and surprised faces, and of course had a go at pulling a few funny faces ourselves! 😄🥺😊
Safe to say, our Pumpkins have been very well loved this week! 🎃
We wonder what will capture our little explorers’ curiosity next… 🍂🤎
